What is the Best Hike on the North Oregon Coast?

Heather Crawford • June 12, 2013

Tillamook County is home to many fun excursions and tourist spots. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of Oregon coast attractions on our beach house vacation rentals site. For now, we’d like to share with you a great idea for a half day excursion.

Many people come from Portland area to explore the North Oregon coast. Portland is famous for it’s many beautiful hiking trails, so the hiking standard a Portlander is accustomed to might compel them to ask: “What are the best hiking trails on the Oregon coast?” We feel that we can confidently answer that in as little as two words ‘Cape Lookout’.

Here’s what our guest blogger had to say about it:

“There is no shortage of beauty or hiking trails along the Northern Oregon coast, but as someone who lives in Portland and has seen the magnificence of Alaska firsthand, Cape Lookout hiking trail took my breath away! Of course, in all fairness part of that could have been attributed to standing over an immensely high cliff.

The faint sound of crashing waves, the gleeful birds circling below, the relaxing ocean air on your skin and the delightful aroma of the Sitka Spruce forest, gives you a nature cocktail at it’s best!”

– Candice Tutterrow, Portland Oregon

Cape Lookout hiking trail extends out to sea in the shape of a peninsula, with ocean depths on all sides. It is approximately 2 miles each way and includes forest and ocean scenery all along the length of the trail. We highly recommend this hiking trail! We recommend doing this hike on a fair weather day. Check the local weather on our site! (Unfortunately, due to the magnificently high cliffside elements we cannot recommend Cape Lookout hiking trail to families with small children.)

Now that you’ve worked up an appetite, not too far down the road is a popular local brew pub called Pelican. If you live near Portland Oregon you may have seen their bottles on the beer isle at your local grocery store. Pelican Brew Pub is located right next to the beach in Pacific City, Oregon. The food is great, the beer is even better and large picturesque windows showcase the nearby waves!

Wanting to stay near Cape Lookout hiking trail? We manage North Oregon coast house rentals in the nearby area, including Cape Meares, Oceanside, Rockaway Beach, Netarts Bay and more. Book one today!
